Programme

The course will provide the students with an overview of optical, electrochemical and electronic biosensors. First, an introduction on (bio)sensing and on the figures of merit of a biosensor will be provided. Then, for each kind of biosensor that will be presented, the working principles will be briefly described, followed by analysis of recent examples from the literature highlighting their potential for applications in medicine.
A dedicated lesson will focus on the development of novel biorecognition elements and the impact of nanotechnology for (bio)sensing purposes. The students will therefore become aware of what kind of information can be obtained by the different biosensing technology and to critically evaluate their pros and cons.
